💡 This checklist is based on several checklists I use at Majorcord. The checklist items are generalized, because you may not use the same tools as I do. Instead, consider this a starting point which you can use to think about and create your own simple backup checklist.

- [ ] All your local files: The files you have locally on your computer forms the bulk of your backup. Making automatic backups is not as difficult as it sounds-we've got a quickstart for you.
⚡️ Quickstart: Backup all your files with Backblaze
- [ ] Your website. Whether you use Squarespace, Wix, Wordpress, Ghost, or roll your own-a backup of your website gives you something to fall back on in case of issues. Export a backup of your website and save it locally.
- [ ] Your password manager (and other security tools): These tools are critical to being having access to your services. We trust that our tool of choice has a reliable way to internally backup our content. But, because of the importance of this content, we also make our own backups. Our tool allows exporting our passwords in an encrypted form-never store your passwords in plain text-and save it locally.
- [ ] Your calendar: Your calendar is what lets you juggle time-specific commitments. Without this you will miss meetings and appointments. Back it up.
- [ ] Your task management tool. Your task management tool reflects commitments you have made with yourself. If your lose the record of these commitments, your and your business' reputation may be affected. Prevention is always preferable to damage control.
- [ ] Do you have anything else you'd lose sleep over if they were lost?

💡 And finally the last step. Making sure your backups work.

- [ ] Test your backup. Always test your backups! You don't want to find out that your backup is broken when your originals have already been lost. You can do a basic test of your backup by opening them up and testing to see if you can locate a file or something equally specific.

For step 2, you have a choice.
-
Copy-paste the items into your existing task management system. I use Trello for some of my checklists. You may use others, like Todoist or Asana.
-
Already using Notion? Save time by by duplicating this checklist right here in Notion.
